The 1st German-Azerbaijani Sustainability Forum organised by the German-Azerbaijani
Chamber of Commerce took place on October 12, 2021 at the JW Marriott Absheron Baku
Hotel. The event, which brought together about 150 high-ranking business representatives
from Azerbaijan and Germany, focused on "Sustainable Development of Water
Infrastructure in Azerbaijan”.
The forum aims to create a productive business platform for the exchange of best practices
between German and Azerbaijani stakeholders in the field of green technologies, by bringing
together business representatives and high-ranking representatives of economic and political
institutions from the two countries. Moreover, the event offers direct public-private dialogue
opportunities through panel discussions, expert presentations, workshops, and B2B meetings.
The German-Azerbaijani Sustainability Forum is organised in the framework of a 4-day business
trip of German companies from the sustainable water and wastewater management sector to
Azerbaijan funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation
and Nuclear Safety.
The Forum was inaugurated with the opening speech of Executive Director of AHK Azerbaijan,
Mr Tobias Baumann, who shortly introduced the agenda of the event. Following this, Deputy

Eastern Zangezur economic region to utilize the natural resources of the liberated areas in a more
sustainable and effective way. Deputy Minister Hajiyev, stated that, this unique platform established with the support of the AHK Azerbaijan and the German Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Energy, plays a very crucial role in assessing untapped potential of the country in the relevant sphere and in identifying the challenges ahead.
Speaking about AHK Azerbaijan as a very important pillar of the foreign economic policy of
Germany in the country, Dr Wolfgang Manig emphasised the Chamber`s role in bringing
together the high-level stakeholders from both countries to raise the awareness about the local
market in the field of water and wastewater management, and to pave a way for new partnerships.

delegation trip is one clear example of how Germany is eager to contribute to the realisation of
SDG 6 (“Ensure access to water and sanitation for all”) in Azerbaijan.
Following the official opening, the delegation participants introduced their companies and the
technologies they offer. The Forum will continue its work with panel discussions (on
sustainability in industrial water and wastewater management and sustainability in agriculture),
