The event dedicated to Victory Day

The Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum hosts the presentation of the Zafar (Victory) carpet on November 5, 2021.

This carpet, a part of the Carpet Map of Karabakh project will be solemnly cut off the loom in accordance with the ancient traditions. The event also includes the presentation of the Shusha tapestry by Adil Shikhaliyev, Honored Artist of Azerbaijan.

The starting point of the project was the museum’s interactive Carpet Map of Karabakh designed during the 44-day Patriotic War and aimed to promote Karabakh carpets. Initially, the map consisted of popular carpet fragments from every district of Karabakh, though colored only in black and white. As our Glorious Army was liberating our lands, the fragments of the Carpet Map of Karabakh gained their original bright colors characteristic to each district. After the Victory, the map formed the sketch and was later transferred into the Zafar (Victory) carpet, dedicated to the victorious Azerbaijani Army under the command of Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
Zafar (Victory) carpet depicts fragments from the carpets Khanlig (Jabrayil), Gubadli (Gubadli), Bahmanli (Fuzuli), Lampa (Shusha), Gasimushagi (Lachin), Shabalid-Buta (Aghdam), Achma-Yumma (Khojavend), Chelebi (Tartar), kilim from Zangilan, and zili from Kalbajar.
This work of art displays the President’s famous quote Karabakh Is Azerbaijan! which became a slogan and the patterns symbolizing the unity of our people and the spirit of victory.
The idea, sketch, and weaving process of the Zafar (Victory) carpet were implemented by the ANCM team. The carpet was woven from 48 different colored woolen threads in the Museum’s Traditional Technologies Department in three months.

The central part of the tapestry triptych Shusha by Adil Shikhaliyev pictures Shusha, the cradle of Karabakh art before the occupation, its fascinating panorama. One of the side parts portrays the fire and the battles fought to liberate Shusha, the other side depicts liberated Shusha under a clear sky, full of peaceful prosperity, which has regained its true spirit.

The event will be attended by the Second Karabakh War veterans and their children. The program also includes the Fitna shadow puppet theatre performance on the occasion of the 880th anniversary of genius poet Nizami Ganjavi.
