The 11th Session of the Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers has completed its work - POTO

The 11th Session of the Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers held in Baku on June 28 organized by the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted the Resolution on Tourism Development and issued Baku Declaration.
The Resolution on Tourism Development decided to explore the possibility of involving the private sector organizations of the member state countries to participate in the infrastructural development projects in the liberated territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Also, the illegal exploitation of natural resources, the destruction of ecosystem and urban infrastructure, especially cultural and historical heritage in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan by Armenia, as well as the deliberate destruction of Islamic cultural and historic monuments in the territory of Armenia, was strongly condemned in the resolution.
The Baku declaration reflected such issues as the development of health, eco, cultural and rural tourism among member countries on the basis of mutual interests, support of joint initiatives, cooperation on participation in exhibitions, joint activities for the development of sustainable tourism, the preservation and popularization of Islamic historical and cultural heritage, the role the tourism can play in overall improvement of the image of Islam, the attraction of relevant international financial institutions and private sector in their implementation of investment projects in member countries.
It was decided that the next 12th Session of ICTM to take place in the Kingdom of Morocco.
The 11th session of ICTM selected Shanliurfa city of Turkey and Khiva city of Uzbekistan as the capital of the Islamic world for 2023 and 2024, respectively.
The conference was attended by more than 160 members from 39 countries, including tourism ministers and deputy ministers, ambassadors, representatives of 7 affiliated institutions of the OIC, state officials, and experts.
The conference participants are expected to visit Shusha on June 29.
